NL Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker competitor on the planet by many of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to learn everything he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not allow the detrimental feedback from others kill his dream of being one of the best poker players in the world.
Phil began playing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a learning period and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed a number of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an undying love for the game of poker. He says that he is picking up skills every day and is quite humble about his achievements. Phil admits to making blunders in each session of poker and always aspires to get better.
Although Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a regular basis.
