Internet High Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

Gus Hansen experienced an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to achieve final table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may remember one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen secured a large pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Gus has earned many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the strongest bettors in the world. While participating in online poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. He frequently participates in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen more often than not buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then pushes all-in. I know Hansen is a great poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is flat broke, he has little or no reason to settle at the table with the minimum buy-in.

Playing for the minimum takes a majority of the skill out of deep stack poker. Gus is presumed to be one of the greatest poker players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the total amount. I think tv can alter our view of the real world every now and then. The best poker players in the world might just be players you have never heard of before. Gus can be seen competing in net poker on Full Tilt. He generally competes in big stakes Omaha and Holdem. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he use his abilities in money games?
