No-Limit Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker contender on the planet by many of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover every little thing he could about poker. Phil would tell his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the negative feedback from others destroy his ambition of being one of the strongest poker players on the planet.
He started playing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a regular thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed a number of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to discipline and an eternal passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every day and is quite humble about his success. He admits to making mistakes in each session of poker and always aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a normal basis.
