NL Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by most of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching turning one. His papa introduced him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he possibly could about the game. He would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the adverse comments from others kill his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker players in the world.
Phil started playing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed many of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing love for poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every single day and is very abashed about his success. He knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and always strives to improve.
Even though Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
