Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is often times viewed as one of the most complicated but popular poker games. It is a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for play from every level of players. This is the main reason why a once obscure variation, has grown in popularity so amazingly.

Omaha/8 starts exactly like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are handed out to each player. A round of betting ensues where players can bet, check, or drop out. 3 cards are dealt out, this is called the flop. A further round of betting happens. Once all the players have either called or folded, another card is revealed on the turn. an additional round of wagering happens and then the river card is revealed. The gamblers must attempt to make the best high and low five card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is the point where many players can get flustered. Contrasted to Hold’em, where the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi lo the player must utilize precisely 3 cards from the board, and exactly 2 cards from their hand. No more, not a single card less. Contrary to regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot might be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It’s the best possible hand out of every player’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the very same notion in nearly every poker game.

A lower hand is more complicated, but certainly opens up the play.
